Maybelline Great Lash Turns 40

August 11, 2011 1:36 pm
Ask any drugstore beauty queen what her favorite budget-friendly mascara is and the answer will reliably come back the same: Maybelline Great Lash. Known for its dark glossy formula, the industry-standard lash lacquer has made its way into makeup bags across the country since debuting four decades ago, becoming a fixture on vanities and movie lots alike (Mad Men makeup department head Lana Horochowski doesn’t go to work without it). Last year, Maybelline tackled the style set as well, sponsoring New York’s Fall 2010 shows at Bryant Park. To celebrate its 40th birthday, designers are returning the favor. This weekend will see the release of three limited-edition Great Lash tubes conceived by Max Azria, Tracy Reese, and Vivienne Tam. Exclusively available at Target, each mascara has a hand-scrawled signature as well as a singular black design element that adorns its classic hot pink facade.
