Generic Man

Wingtip Victory

July 28, 2011

The footwear label The Generic Man is generic in name alone—proof positive, their new collaborators, the assuredly ungeneric designers at Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons SHIRT line. For the new wingtips ($470), available now at Comme des Garçons’ shops in New York, Tokyo, and Beijing, as well as retailers like Colette in Paris and Union in Los Angeles, the partnering brands offer their take on a style that’s quickly becoming a new classic: the thick-soled brogue. They’re a little newfangled, a little old movie—not unlike the short film the designers created to go along with them, inspired by an old master of the nouvelle vague, Jean-Luc Godard. It debuts exclusively on Style.com, below.
