Physicians Formula’s About Face

August 5, 2011

Physicians Formula has a 74-year-strong heritage of designing makeup for the most sensitive types among us, so it’s just plain weird that it’s never had a skincare line to take care of easily irritated complexions pre-powder and foundation. But at long last, the popular mass market brand is premiering a dermatologist-backed skincare series. The products are separated into three micro-collections (Aging, Moisture Balance, and Sensitivity & Redness), each of which features three, star cosmeceutical ingredients, all separated into an easy-to-follow three-step regimen (cleanse, moisturize, treat). The Aging line uses laminaria algae complex, alpha hydroxy acid, and a hydrolyzed pea peptide blend to address hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and firmness; Moisture Balance is a crowd-pleaser with a lightweight finish and a hydration focus that balances combination skin; while Sensitivity & Redness seems the most in tune with Physicians Formula’s roots, treating irritated and reactive complexions—it’s even gentle enough for rosacea sufferers. Because we’re blessed with multiple skin personalities, we’ve taken to doing a little mixing and matching with the nine-piece line, using Moisture Balance’s Hydrating & Balancing Cleanser, Aging’s Wrinkle Corrector Moisturizer and Eye Cream, and Sensitivity & Redness’ Instant Calming Spray, a sampling effort that is made all the easier by the range’s budget-friendly prices.
