Walking The Walk, Then Sketching It, Too

November 14, 2011

Some girls read books, listen to music, or chat on their BlackBerry. But I sketch backstage and during castings, because we are all bored and anxious and need something to relax us or calm our nerves,” model Naomi Preizler explains. (In the 21-year-old Argentine’s case, those castings are for the likes of Chanel, Alexander Wang, Givenchy, and Balenciaga, and on set for Interview, LOVE, and i-D shoots) Hearing of her hobby, Harvey Nichols commissioned Preizler to do a series of illustrations for its latest lookbook, which the retailer shared exclusively with Style.com.

The retailer suggested Preizler look to Meadham Kirchhoff to sum up the season’s mood. “I played the video of the show over and over again while I was drawing, and probably know all the looks by heart now,” she says. “It was the perfect excuse to indulge in my love for color and listen to Hole on repeat.” The onetime art student created expressionistic versions of Ed Meadham and Ben Kirchhoff’s sugary-sweet teddy bears, kittens, hearts, unicorns, and cake to illustrate the mailer. “Naomi’s dreamy, irreverent style was perfect to portray the trends we loved this season, including under-the-sea aquatic influences as well as the sometimes bonkers creativity of our talented British designers like Meadham Kirchoff, with their explosion of kitsch cuteness and fun this season,” Harvey Nichols spokesperson Victoria Meekings said.
