Tilda Swinton covers the August issue of W looking wonderfully like herself (that is to say, otherworldly, sexually ambiguous, and weird in a fantastic way). In the accompanying story, she claims her style icons are David Bowie and her father, Major General Sir John Swinton. “I would rather be handsome, as he is, for an hour than pretty for a week," she says, adding that the token androgyny discussion can be overrated: "People talk about androgyny in all sorts of dull ways.”
Instead of hiring a professional red-carpet stylist for events, Swinton relies on her friend Jerry Stafford, the creative director of a French production company. W followed suit and enlisted Stafford to be the creative director for this cover as well as its accompanying spread, which is probably why it looks so great.
