CRAZY

It's has been revealed that singer Mariah Carey was paid $1 million to sing just four songs at a New Year's party by the family of embattled Libyan dictator Moammar Qaddafi.

The report appears in The New York Times, citing American diplomatic cables obtained by Wikileaks.

Carey sang at the lavish 2009 New Year's party on the Caribbean island of St. Barts.

Beyoncé took the stage at the New Year's party the following year, again paid for by the notorious Qaddafi family. She reportedly earned $2 million to sing. Usher also performed at the bash, and guests included Beyoncé's husband Jay-Z and Lindsay Lohan.

"It surprised me a little bit when I first heard that such big names were performing for the sons of Qaddafi, only because they don't need the money. So the question then becomes, why would you do it?" says Our World with Black Enterprise host Marc Lamont Hill.

The Qaddafi family is now locked in a bloody struggle to hold onto power in Libya. The revelations about their lavish New Year's parties with U.S. pop stars quotes diplomats saying the "carousing and extravagance" were "embarrassing to the nation."

Qaddafi shook his fist on live TV, saying he'll never step down.
