Nicky Zimmermann

The Zimmermann Resort ’14 collection was shown in a Chelsea Gallery to a standing crowd of fashion insiders during a deluge of sorts outside, the likes of which are all too frequent in New York this Spring.  The drenching rains didn’t curb the crowd’s enthusiasm for this 23 year old collection hailing from Down Under as designer Nicky Zimmermann wowed us with a range of easy, breezy separates that combined her swimwear roots with her “Good Love” inspiration, which, in her words, “is a classic tale of good girl gone bad.”
She used a base palette of Black & White, upon which she built using Metallic Gold, Red, Natural, Plum, Cream, & Tan in solids as well as a few checks, plaids & a season’s best bohemian large scale paisley.  When combined in a variety of shapes, some loose, some fitted the effect was the perfect embodiment of the dark & light, good & bad, innocent versus sexy dichotomy the line notes mention.  The collection was at its best when the playful mix of ruffles & peplums were used on voluminous shapes that are certain to be covetable pieces to her audience, as they would be equally at home on the boulevards of the city or the cobblestone streets of a resort town of choice… the only difference would be the pieces worn beneath… & of course the frame of mind behind the “sunnies” (thanks R.Z.).
